Hi, I am not sure if you peeled your potatoes before you boiled them. But if you didn't, consider not peeling all of them.

(they were boiled, they are clean now)

Mash some of them with the skin on. Adds some color and makes the dish look interesting. Add some crushed garlic to taste if you have some, or some garlic salt or powder, along with your pepper and butter. You can add some water or milk also.

If you have a mixer, consider using it after mashing, to make whipped potatoes. That really makes a difference in texture.

Good luck!

Everyone's suggestions sound very yummy!
Add sour cream and buttermilk or heavy cream to the mixture.

Additions to Your Mashed Potatoes:

Once you鈥檝e mastered making really good homemade mashed potatoes, you can add things to your potatoes for flavor, texture and interest. Some of the things you can add while you are mashing the potatoes are:

Nutmeg

Grated cheese

Parmesan cheese

Worcestershire sauce

Cooked parsnips or rutabagas

Cooked carrots and onions

Cream cheese

Roasted garlic

Perfect Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 lbs yukon gold potatoes, peeled and quartered length-wise

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 Tbsp heavy cream

2 Tbsp butter

1 Tbsp milk

Salt and Pepper

A potato masher

Method

1 Put potatoes into a saucepan. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add water until potatoes are covered. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered, 15-20 minutes, or until done - a fork can easily be poked through them.

2 Warm cream and melt butter, together, either in microwave or in a pan on the stove. Drain water from potatoes. Put hot potatoes into a bowl. Add cream and melted butter. Use potato masher to mash potatoes until well mashed. Use a strong spoon to beat further, adding milk to achieve the consistency you desire. (Do not over-beat or your potatoes will get gluey.) Salt and pepper to taste.

Serves 4.

PS.

You can add more Ingredients if you want ^^^
I sort of made up a recipe for mashed potatoes and I call it

Cajun mashed potatoes and corn

diced onions, sauteed

thick mashed potatoes

can of corn

liquid Zatarans shrimp and crab boil concentrate- 1/2 tsp.

margarine

ranch dressing- just use your own measurements or just add a little at a time to adjust to your liking-- this is good with seafood and Oh yeah, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese

on top and place in the oven until melted, done!
Before you mash them dice up some raw onion and parsley or chives, then mash away. Really good with stewed hamburger. I make mine with tomato sauce onions green bell pepper and garlic. This is one recipe you can play with and not ruin it.
My family likes caramelized onions in the mashed potatoes. I usually use a large onion diced in big pieces and caramelize in butter and extra virgin olive oil. Add them when you mash the potatoes or stir them in after.
You could make Champ. Champ is mashed potatoes and spring onions. Mash the potatoes, chop up the spring onions and mix in with the other ingredients for mash. It's very nice, pretty healthy and looks colourful.
I don't like mashing new potatoes drizzle with some melted butter and a sprinkle of garlic chives.

Add some crushed garlic and a splash of milk, a knob of butter and mash if you must.
Go to this site for 206 recipes for mashed potatoes, haha.

I prefer a combination of salt, pepper, butter, and heavy cream. The heavy cream gives the potatos a more creamy texture. I know some people who will add cream cheese as well.
Add sour cream, salt, pepper, butter, fresh chives and dill.

Mmmm..

If you;re feeling indulgent you can add some grated cheese or diced %26amp; fried bacon as well.
Try adding some whipped cream if you'd like them a little sweeter. Or if you're going for savory add some garlic and horseradish.
milk, salt, pepper, butter, garlic, and parmesan
You can put milk or heavy whipping cream or even chicken broth. Some sour cream makes them real good.
add shredded cheese and garlic powder, or just any other seasonings you'd like. (:
